SLOW FOOD RGV

Bueno, Sano, y Justo

Food culture begins with YOU & Slow Food is a lifestyle. Learn to be aware of the food you eat, where it comes from, who made it, and how it affects your well-being.

Slow Food RGV: About
Radicchio

History of Slow Food | Why it matters

Carlo Petrini, an Italian, created the slow food movement in 1989 to combat the threat to food awareness, food security, and food enjoyment brought about by the ever growing fast food market. Since food is tied to every part of our lives, we should pay attention to what we consume. Consequently, we must pay attention to how the food we eat affects our health and our community.

We, the consumers, direct the market of food. So, if we consume local foods and local food products then we are supporting our neighbors! To keep the RGV strong, growing, and thriving, we should make a conscious effort to support local restaurants. Read below some of my favorite local restaurants.

Whether you like black coffee, tea, cappuccinos, or espresso, MoonBeans is the place for you! Try their lavender tea with a splash off almond milk or their famous moonmud! Aside from the fact that they roast their own coffee beans, the coffee house atmosphere is good for doing work, catching up with friends, or simply hanging out!

I'm not biased, but Milano's has the most authentic and fresh Italian food in the RGV. Every morning, fresh bread is made along with all the sauces, using local ingredients!

Diego's Food Truck, a locally owned, farm-to-table kitchen serves fresh food daily at McAllen's food truck park. I am OBSESSED with their changing menu, according to the vegetables and fruits in season.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Greens and Lemons serves a healthy Mediterranean Contemporary Mexican fusion here in the RGV. If you go, order a fresh poke bowl, a green juice, or my favorite, the chicken kebabs.
